SUWS offers a 28-day minimum program with an average length of stay from 4-9 weeks. Each struggling teen applicant is reviewed by admissions and clinical staff to assess the applicant’s behavioral history and psychological or educational testing, if applicable.

Clinical Criteria
The following behaviors or issues are common in some or all of our struggling teen students. The severity of these presenting issues will be assessed to determine whether placement is appropriate:
- ADHD
- Anxiety Disorder
- Chemical Dependency or Substance Abuse
- Mood Disorders
- Oppositional Defiant Disorder
- Specific Developmental Disorders or Learning Differences
Exclusions
There are a number of psychiatric, emotional, and behavioral conditions that may preclude admission and thereby warrant further evaluation by the treatment team:
- Antisocial personality disorder
- Dissociative disorder
- Extreme suicide risk
- History or potential for violence
- Intermittent explosive disorder
- Personality disorders
- Psychosis
- Severe chronic depression
- Severe eating disorders
- Severe self-mutilation

Sarah Casson Rush – Admissions Director
Sarah has worked for Aspen Education Group, the parent company of SUWS since 2005 in positions with increasing responsibility. Sarah has an extensive background in customer service and marketing. Her experience includes both residential and outdoor program settings. Most recently, she was the Admissions Director of New Leaf Academy of Oregon. She began her career as an intern at St. Mary’s Boys Home in Portland while attending Portland State University where she studied psychology.
Sarah brings an impressive level of empathy and sincerity in her ability to listen, support and hold the families hand from initial call to arrival.
